The Best Ways To Use Faux Wood Shutters

Many people nowadays are choosing faux wood shutters as an alternative to real wooden blinds. If you do not already know, faux wood shades have a design that makes them look like real wood, but they are not. They are actually made from material that contains vinyl and polymers.

What is the main reason that people use faux wood blinds?

The primary reason is because they are an inexpensive alternative to shutters made from things such as oak, cherry, maple, cedar, teak, and more. From a distance, one cannot tell the difference between the real thing and faux wood. The whole idea is to have the look and feel of more expensive wood shutters but at a cheaper and more reasonable price. They can actually be up to 1/3 cheaper, so anyone looking for a discounted price will surely want to take notice.

Are they for interior or exterior?

Faux wood window covers can actually be used for both. They provide an elegant indoor look that nicely compliments other types of furniture, curtains, shades, and wall colors. However, you can also use them for outdoor use. Since the faux wood material is not real wood, it is not as susceptible to swelling when the weather is moist or humid. Therefore, it can be a smart option to use as exterior shutters. Their ability to be unaffected by moisture can also make them a good option for indoor rooms such as bathroom and patios.

They are also able to withstand peeling, cracking, staining, and fading when exposed to direct sunlight over time. One of the biggest pros about faux wood shutters is that they are a cheaper alternative that can survive harsher conditions.

Are they difficult to maintain?

You will occasionally need to use a wet rag or a paper towel to clean them off. If they are outdoors you may want to clean them slightly more often because it is more likely that dirt may build up. Likewise, interior faux wood blinds can accumulate dust if not cleaned often enough. Keeping up with the maintenance will also prevent the growth of mold.

What sizes and designs are available?

You can get faux wood shades that are made as mini blinds, plantation shutters, or just about any other type of design you can think of. Many people down south prefer their traditional plantation shutters to be made of faux wood because it is better at withstanding some of the harsh weather conditions. They can also be made in a wide variety of sizes and colors.

Where can I get them?

Go to a local store such as Lowes or Home Depot. In addition, you can find many online vendors as well as regional vendors who can take all the base measurements and follow through with the whole installation process.

All in all, faux wood shutters are a great window treatment that can be adaptable to indoors, outdoors, and can be made in just about any style you wish that will match the rest of your home. They are a less expensive alternative that will surely last a long time.
